SHS PTA Volunteer Form 08/09

Dear Parents,
 
We are currently looking for volunteers for the 2008/2009 school year.  PTA committees provide a valuable opportunity for you to become involved in issues and activities that directly affect your child at the High  School.   We have a place for everyone, whether your time commitment can be large or small, during the day or the evening.  Please read the brief committee descriptions and check off those in which you are interested and SUBMIT the form.
 
Please check all the committees that you are interested in helping:
Alternative School - Volunteers have children in the A-School, grades 10-12. Assist with A-School activities, as needed.

Budget Study - Attend Board of Education budget study meetings and make recommendations. Report to PTA on budget issues/proposals that affect SHS.

C.H.I.L.D. - Children with Individual Learning Differences, a committee of the PT Council. A network of resources, information and support for parents with children who learn differently.

College and Career Center - Volunteers staff the Center, which provides information for parents and students about colleges, scholarships, financial aid, and summer programs. (Only for Sophomore, Junior and Senior Parents)

Directory - Organize, edit, and coordinate printing of the Student Directory.

Directory Sales - Sell Student Directory at two Parent/Teacher Conference evenings in October.

Environmental Issues - Promote concern for environmental issues and recycling.

Fundraiser - Plan and implement the major fund raising event for the PTA.

Hospitality - Arrange for coffee set-up for three or four PTA meetings and for continental breakfast at the November meeting and lunch at the May meeting.

Legislation - Track legislative issues concerning PTA at local, state and national levels, a committee of the PT council.

Membership - Collect PTA membership dues and refer volunteers to PTA committee chairs.

Multicultural Families - Plan programs and activities for International and American parents to share their cultures, including field trips and a celebration of Thanksgiving.

New Families - Social gathering early in the year for families new to SHS. Welcome families who move into the community during the year.

Parent/Teacher Conferences - Volunteers are assigned to a teacher to time the 2-minute parent/teacher conferences on one of two evenings in October.

Program - Help in finding program topics and speakers for SHS PTA meetings. Includes one joint meeting with the Middle School.

Safety - Work with Administration/Village to maintain a safe school environment.

Senior Festivities: Parents of 12th graders.
Pre-Prom Reception - Plan the party at the High School prior to boarding the buses to the Prom. Involves decorating and catering.
Transition Day Luncheon - Involves decorating and catering.
Sports Swap - Volunteer at annual Sports Swap, a committee of the PT Council. A Saturday morning in early September.

Staff Recognition Luncheon - Assist with annual fall “Thank You” luncheon for staff. Catered event.

Summer Activities Fair - Coordinate and publicize the Fair, which showcases camps, trips, sports, community service activities and academic programs for teens. Held in the school on the Tuesday evening following Thanksgiving.

Volunteer Services - Organize the Volunteer Services Fair in September. Present students with available options for volunteering their time in our community and in the school. Organize the Volunteer Service Awards Assembly in the spring.

Youth Employment Service - Y.E.S.- A community organization staffed by volunteers. Brings students seeking part-time work and employers together. Students work as tutors, baby-sitters, party aides, sales clerks and in a variety of other positions.
